Much to the disdain of my family and the excitement of my friends, I’m doing it again! If you aren’t already familiar with what I’m referring to from the past two years of bright yellow shirts and me asking for money, “it” is Race2, during which myself and my friends Will and Claire will compete with many other teams from St Andrews in hitchhiking from somewhere in Scotland to Munich – that’s about 1200 miles - the fastest! The goal of this race is to blag our way as far as we can to awareness for three amazing charities: Doctors without Borders (MSF), The Wave Project, and Fife Women's Aid. We ask that people pledge money to our cause, much like the way you might for a marathon runner who also races for a cause, except I’m out of shape. We’re also hoping that along the way we can spread the word of these charities and the greater missions they serve.
In the past two years of Race2, I’d say my teams raced amazingly, yet I’m setting a goal for myself to use even less public transit than I did last year (you can revisit my journey on my facebook page). So this time, you could make a one-off donation, or pledge a certain amount for every 6 hours that I go without spending money, for example. (When I say spending money, I mean on transport. First year I took this a little too extreme, but this year I’ll be eating properly).
We have four days to complete the race beginning 19 January. Thank you so much for supporting these charities! We’ll keep you updated along the way.
